Nio ET5
Exciting New Nio ET5: A Premium Electric Car with a Futuristic Twist
Looking for something different in the electric car market? Nio's ET5 mid-size saloon is here to make a statement. With its high-tech features and futuristic style, it's sure to turn heads. While it may not be your typical electric car, the ET5 offers a unique driving experience and stands out from the crowd with its battery swap technology
Nio is already a major player in the Chinese market, selling over 90,000 units in 2021. Now, they're expanding to Europe and bringing their innovative approach with them. With over 860 battery swapping sites in China, Nio offers a convenient way for owners to recharge their cars in just minutes.
In Europe, the ET5 starts at around 60,000 euros (£53,000) if you buy the battery and charge it yourself. Alternatively, you can lease the battery from Nio for £169 euros a month, which includes unlimited free battery swaps. In Norway, customers even get two free battery swaps a month and 200kW of free charging. Nio plans to have 70 Power Swap locations in Europe by the end of 2023.
Competing with the latest electric saloons on the market, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 6, BMW i4, and Tesla Model 3, the ET5 aims to establish itself as a premium choice. With a dual-motor powertrain and all-wheel drive, it delivers impressive power and traction. While the handling may not match the performance, the ET5 remains composed and balanced in corners.
The ET5 offers various driving modes, though they don't drastically alter the car's handling. Sport+ mode, however, unleashes the car's full power, allowing it to reach 62mph in just 4.0 seconds. Most drivers will find comfort mode perfect for everyday driving.
With two battery options, the ET5 can achieve a range of up to 366 miles on a single charge. It takes just 30 to 40 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent using a fast charger. Keep in mind, the ET5 does have a hefty 2,140kg weight.
On the road, the ET5 delivers a smooth ride, thanks to its multi-link suspension. While noise levels remain low at slower speeds, wind noise becomes more noticeable at higher speeds. However, the powertrain remains virtually silent, only emitting a faint whine during hard acceleration.
The ET5 is packed with advanced technology, including 33 sensors that gather data for various driver assistance features. From intelligent cruise control to traffic sign recognition, the ET5 offers a wide range of safety and convenience features.
Stay tuned as we await the arrival of this extraordinary electric car.
