Introducing the brand-new Volvo EX90
Introducing the brand-new Volvo EX90, a seven-seat SUV that will ultimately replace the iconic XC90 in the lineup.
Here's what you need to know about the new model, which has a 111kWh battery and a range of up to 360 miles.
The latest Polestar models served as an inspiration for the EX90's sleek, contemporary appearance. The "Thor's Hammer" headlamps from the brand are still there up front, but the grille from the current XC90 is replaced with a flush face that fits perfectly into the grille.
Side on, the EX90 is actually rather similar to the XC90 for those who are familiar with it. There are some new design elements, such as the line that runs along the middle of the doors, and the door handles are flush with the body. Additionally, 22in alloy wheels in new designs will be made available.
Compared to the XC90, things are rather different towards the back.
In contrast to many other large electric SUVs, the EX90's new tail lights are divided between the sides of the boot lid and the body. They have a sleek appearance and are subdued.
On the inside, you'll see that the dashboard is dominated by a huge 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen, maintaining the minimalist aesthetic.
This interface, which has a built-in 5G connectivity and works with both Android Auto and Apple Carplay, is used to control the majority of the car's features.
The majority of the EX90's interior is constructed using recycled and sustainable materials, and Volvo has made a big deal out of the fact that each vehicle receives 50 kilogrammes of recycled plastic.
There is backlit wood panelling that is made from a sustainable resource underneath the elegant air vents.
Since the EX90 has seven seats, there is a tonne of space — even in the back. This is further aided by the fact that it is a larger vehicle than the XC90; with the rearmost seats are folded down, the available luggage space is 665 litres, compared to 310 litres with all seven seats in place.
With a new Pilot Assist system that supports lane-change steering assistance in addition to the standard Volvo semi-autonomous aids, safety is another key concern for the new EX90.
The new 107kWh battery pack in the EX90 can provide a range of up to 364 miles. All variants also come equipped with dual electric motors, which together produce 410 horsepower and more than 750 Nm of torque, much higher than some of the car's main competitors.
There will also be a 517hp Performance variant available. This vehicle can go from 0 to 62 mph in about 4.7 seconds. The batteries in the EX90 support rapid charging as well, so a recharge from 0% to 80% can be completed in as little as 30 minutes.
Although a precise release date has not been announced, we do know that the EX90 will be available soon, with deliveries starting in 2023. As soon as further information and prices become available, we'll let you know.
