New Volkswagen Golf eHybrid PHEVs Available in the UK with Up to 89 Miles of Range.

Volkswagen Golf's new plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) are now set to hit the UK market, offering impressive range and tax benefits.

Volkswagen is expanding its lineup with the new Golf eHybrid models, which will be on sale from 27 June.

These models bring up to 89 miles of electric-only range and a Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rating of just 5%. Joining this launch are the hot hatch Golf GTI versions, alongside the already available Life, Match, Style, and R-Line trims.

Customers can choose between two eHybrid PHEVs. The Style eHybrid trim starts at £36,760 and is powered by a 204hp 1.5 TSI EVO2 engine paired with an electric motor and a six-speed DSG transmission. The GTE version, priced from £39,750, ups the ante with a 272hp version of the same engine and the same gearbox.

Both eHybrid models feature a new 19.7kWh battery, improved from the previous 13kWh unit, allowing fast DC charging up to 40kW and AC charging up to 11kW, a significant upgrade from the previous 3.6kW. The official electric-only range is 89 miles for the Style eHybrid and 82 miles for the GTE, qualifying both for the 5% BiK rate.

The eHybrids showcase the latest styling updates seen in the new Golf models, including an illuminated Volkswagen logo on the front. Additional features of the Style eHybrid include three-zone Climatronic air conditioning, lane assist, traffic jam assist, and emergency assist. The GTE adds keyless access, heated front seats, tinted rear glass, front fog lamps, and cornering lights.

The launch also sees the introduction of the new Golf GTI, which boasts more power and advanced technologies. The GTI's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine now delivers 265hp, an increase of 20hp, and accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 5.9 seconds.

It comes standard with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox, with manual gear selection available via paddles on the GTI-badged multi-function steering wheel, which now features physical buttons based on customer feedback.

The GTI includes VW’s latest IQ.Light LED matrix headlights, offering a range of 500 meters, redesigned LED taillight clusters, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin features a revamped infotainment system controlled by a 12.9-inch touchscreen or the Volkswagen IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration.

Premium sports seats feature the distinctive GTI check pattern and additional red decorative stitching.

Other standard features for the GTI include keyless access, heated front seats, three-zone Climatronic air conditioning, a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, traffic jam assist, and emergency assist. Starting from £38,900, the Golf GTI goes on sale from 20 June.
